Reunited and it feels so good

Barcelona alumni celebrate 20 years

Spanish alumni from the class of 2005 returned to Wolverhampton to celebrate their 20-year reunion. Organised by Rafael Vidal, the group, who studied Media & Communication, visited old haunts and student residences. One highlight was Luis proposing to Erika at the very spot they met two decades earlier. Now successful professionals in marketing and entrepreneurship, the friends spoke of their strong ties and annual gatherings. “Being back reminded us how fast time passes,” Rafael said. “This place shaped who we are today. It was deeply emotional and truly unforgettable.”

Civil Engineering: Building connections

Civil Engineering graduates from 2014 to 2024 returned to the Springfield Campus for their second annual reunion. Organised by Dr. Alaa Hamood, the event allowed alumni to reconnect and share career successes. Asiha Khan, now working on HS2, credited the university for shaping her confidence and career. “The fundamentals I learned built who I am today,” she said. Staff and alumni alike reflected on the growth and evolution of both the campus and their careers. The event reinforced a shared commitment to keeping in touch and collaborating on future opportunities.

30 years of friendship

Celebrating 30 years since graduating in 1994, BA Languages, Business and IT alumni reunited for a campus tour and day of nostalgia. Organised by Elizabeth Barrowcliffe, the group – friends for decades – reminisced about their student days and how the campus has transformed. “It was full of laughter and nostalgia,” she said. A new WhatsApp group has made staying in touch even easier. Alumna Sarah reflected on her time in Germany during university, which shaped her teaching career. Grateful for the university’s continued support for reunions, Elizabeth added: “The friendships we made have lasted a lifetime.”

Diploma in Languages: 50 years on

Alumni from the 1974-76 Diploma in Languages for Business course reunited in London to mark 50 years since starting at Wolverhampton Polytechnic. Thirteen classmates gathered at the Mad Hatter Pub in Blackfriars, with conversations flowing long into the afternoon. Many travelled from across the UK, Europe, and even the US – including Ruth from Texas, Sue and Janet from Paris, and Alison from the Netherlands. Social media played a key role in reconnecting, and a new WhatsApp group now keeps them in touch. The event was filled with laughter, shared memories, and talk of organising another celebration in the near future.

Hong Kong alumni annual reunion

Hong Kong graduates gathered for their annual reunion, an event that has run for over 20 years. Hosted by Daniel Mak, Chair of the University’s Hong Kong Alumni Association and a 1994 Law graduate, the evening welcomed alumni, staff, and stakeholders. Guests shared career stories and celebrated their connection to Wolverhampton. Dr. Paul Hampton emphasised the enduring partnership with Hong Kong and the value of continued alumni engagement. Daniel added: “Supporting the University of Wolverhampton and organising the annual dinner was a privilege. I was honoured to give back and contribute my efforts towards shaping the future of graduates and leaders of the university.”

Brinsford Lodge reunion: Four decades later

More than 40 years after graduating, alumni who once lived at Brinsford Lodge returned to campus for a heartwarming reunion. Organised by Dave Holyoake, the group, graduates of Computer Science, Law, and Engineering from 1980 and 1981, relived memories and marvelled at how much the campus has changed. “It was the late-night chats and shared spaces that formed our friendships,” said Dave. Though they’ve kept in touch over the years, this was their first group visit to the university since the early ’80s. The nostalgia and bond they shared were as strong as ever.
