Vice-Chancellor's Welcome

Welcome to the 2022 edition of WLV Life, and my first edition as Interim Vice-Chancellor. It’s my honour to address you, a member of the University’s fantastic alumni association, and one of over 140,000 graduates from 130 countries across the world.

I’m excited to build on what the University has already achieved with its alumni.

Our graduates play a huge part in both our past and future, as our students are the very reason for our successes. Whether studying a course to broaden their horizons and knowledge, or later as alumni coaching current students as part of our mentoring programme, you are our lifeblood.

As we slowly emerge from the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic, which saw both University staff and students having to make significant changes to the way their courses were taught and studied, we hope that you and your loved ones have remained safe during these difficult times. As troubling events in Ukraine become the focal point of the news, I would like to once again remind you that the University is here to support our communities of the past, present, and future.

Our alumni have lifetime benefits to tap into for both peace of mind and professional advancement. We offer career support, social gatherings for wellbeing, networking through our mentoring scheme and more, and ongoing access to campus facilities. The University also remains committed to mental health support services and delivering fundraising and complementary services for communities, both locally and internationally.

We are incredibly proud of our alumni and their successes, so WLV Life is the perfect way for us to celebrate your achievements. Amid our esteemed graduates we have successful entrepreneurs, sporting stars, researchers and designers, as well as dedicated volunteers and active community contributors, so this magazine gives us the chance to catch up with some of our most interesting and unique successes. Please enjoy this selection of stories from all fields of our alumni.

We are always pleased to hear your stories, so if you have something to share, you can email us at: alumni@wlv.ac.uk
